The benefits of getting outdoors

After the tough few years we’ve all had, mental and physical wellbeing is more important now than ever. A great way of taking care of yourself is by getting outdoors, and with summer just around the corner, now is the perfect time to start exploring nature. Your garden, a local park or a community space are just a few examples. The warm weather gives you a great opportunity to take a look at your surroundings.

So, what are the benefits?

Mental health

Studies have shown that being outdoors positively impacts your mental health. It helps your brain to release endorphins, boosting your mood. Don’t fancy going for a run? Even just going for a walk and getting some fresh air will have a bigger impact than you think. Feeling more relaxed, positive, and refreshed are a few other benefits of getting outside.

Sleep

Sleeping through your alarms? Poor sleep is something which affects a lot of us, so why not try spending some time outside every day? Spending time outside is associated with improved sleep as we become more in tune with nature's light-and-dark cycle.

Connecting

Exploring new areas gives you the chance to meet new people. Getting to know others in your community is a great way to make friends and it can also help to decrease feelings of loneliness.

Vitamin D + blood pressure

Getting outside can also positively impact your physical health. One way is through absorbing Vitamin D, which you get from the sun. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen! Vitamin D supports immune health as well helping to regulate your mood. Getting some fresh air everyday also lowers your stress levels which then reduces your blood pressure.

The benefits are endless

As you can see, the positives of being outdoors are never-ending. Let us know what you get up to in your communities and where you explore next!
